New chapter in our lives..

Not just Collin learning to go potty, but other MAJOR changes happening in the near future. A change in church callings to give me a little break on Sundays, Tom is in the midst of job applying & interviewing(his job is over in November), Ivy starts kindergarten in September, Andrew will be starting speech therapy(1 hr/week), and I just found out that in less than 6 months Tom's Coast Guard Reserves unit will be deploying for 6 months.

What I'm wondering is how does Tom's imminent deployment affect his employment prospects? Does he have to tell them, look I'm going to be deployed in a few months?

basically, i think they're not legally allowed to fire him while he's deployed. a lot of the places he's interviewing & applying for get miltary contracts (to build stuff for them), i think those companies are more apt to do a differential pay--pay us the difference between the pennies he gets from the coast guard and what he's usually paid.

he hasn't had too many interviews since we found out the certainty of the deployment happening. i *believe* he told his boss today. but yes, that is something he will be saying in interviews & specifically asking if they'll give us the differential pay.

we were told late last week, that in about a month, the boeing hr people would be able to keep some people from the division tom's in. tom actually found his job description & same split-off company that he's with now, and applied for it online this morning.

now we just sit back, hope & pray that they take him. he's the best qualified, since it's the exact same job he's doing now. :) his replacement that's been there awhile is, according to tom, so unqualified & unmotivated to do anything.

Holy Cow!! Do you know where Tom will be deployed to? Can you and the kids go with him??? Keep us posted!

there was speculation earlier, but at this point we don't know. it's his coast guard reserves unit & 4 navy units(mixed together) split up yet to be announced 4 different countries.

i don't think we can go, but i don't know. i haven't talked about that specifically with tom. if we could, i don't know that it'd be the best option for our family, since ivy would already be into the kindergarten school year(she missed the cut-off last year), collin is in an almost all-day preschool and he desperately needs the services he's got in place. tom would get back maybe early summer-ish, so the school year would probably be over by the time the deployment was over.
